From humble beginnings, we have grown into a trusted name in South Africa's electrical, lighting, and renewable energy sectors, serving both local and international customers.
Our journey began in 1964 when Bernhard 'Kiepie' Herholdt, one of South Africa's youngest electricians, co-founded Power Electrical Contractors. In 1974, together with Frikkie Esterhuizen, he established Herholdt's Electrical Contractors in Bloemfontein, laying the foundation for decades of growth.
We expanded into wholesaling in 1989, launched our renewable energy division in 2016, and unified all divisions under The Herholdt's Group in 2021.
Our footprint continued to grow with branches opening in George (2018), Gauteng and Cape Town (2020), Centurion and Gqeberha (2022), and Durban and Mbombela (2023).
In 2024, we opened our Cape Town Brackengate branch, which is now home to The Herholdt's Group Head Office—leading our national operations and the future of energy.
