Enersolsa is a Herholdt’s Trusted Installer, specializing in renewable energy systems. They also provide their expertise and services for solar geysers, heat pumps and air conditioning.
Paul McLaren started Enersolsa with only one technician in 2012, grew into a dynamic team of 9 and together they are raising the bar in their industry. They have done renewable installations throughout South Africa, with close to 50 installations in Bloemfontein.
While having cappuccino together at Lejit Unplugged at our Bloemfontein branch, I asked Paul a few questions about Enersolsa and the future of renewable energies.
Taking a trip down memory lane, when was your first installation, and where? What system did you put in place?
PM: The first project we did was back in 2018 in Woodlands, Bloemfontein. We installed a Victron system and one after the other customers started enquiring and calling for a similar installation.
Which project did you recently complete and which products were used?
PM: We did a project on a farm near Jacobsdal in 2022. The system consists of:
One, 3-phase, 24kVA Victron inverter
42kwh Solar MD batteries
36 x JA Solar 460w panels
Another notable installation was done at ‘A Cherry Lane Guesthouse’ in Ferreira, Bloemfontein. Here we used the Sunsynk 24kVA system with 54 solar panels.

What is the biggest obstacle that you face in the renewable energy industry?
PM: Financing is the biggest obstacle in the industry, but there are banks with dedicated departments specifically for this. Low-income houses struggle to afford a small system to aid against load shedding at this stage, but luckily, it is a fast-moving industry and alternatives will become available soon.
Eugene Maddocks, technical manager, started working for Enersolsa in 2017 and strives for the highest standard in every installation he is a part of. 'I strive to do my work with precision. Quality and fast, reliable service is our goal.'
